Session Notes - January 31, 2010 Session

This session marked the twenty-sixth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, crackers, and cheese this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 42 games in which we scored 14,695 points for a 349.89 point-per-game average. Of the 35 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week with a 7-1 record, 15 bingos, and a 402 pts per game average.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Gem Show Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of within it, a mineral, rock, or geological formation. Nobody came up with any jewels this week, so the $3.00 prize will roll over to next session.

The second was the A Word For The "Y"s Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Y" somewhere within it. Ed Saunders came up with a 59 pt PLOY, Sarah Jacobson tried DENSITY for 74, but Karen Lundeen depended on 83 pts worth of HEARSAY to claim the $3.00 prize.

Ed Saunders knocked off two of the Progressive Jackpots this week, scoring 101 pts with his phony bonzais* to pick up $1.12 from the 100+ Play Progressive jackpot and stringing out his EEIINRS rack behind a hanging "JO" to form JOINERIES for 68 pts and the ($3.55) 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot.

None of the other Progressive Jackpots were claimed this week and $0.75 shall be added to each next session. We have paid out $291.05 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (February 7, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
