Session Notes - February 28, 2010 Session

This session marked the twenty-ninth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, crackers, and some chocolate this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 34 games in which we scored 12,366 points for a 363.71 point-per-game average. Of the 30 recorded bingos we played, none was a phoney that went unchallenged.

Lewis Saul took top honors this week with a 6-1 record, 13 bingos and a 410 pt per game average.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "AB-BA" Contest for the highest scoring play which includes either of the two-letter words "AB" aor "BA" as a separate two-letter word. Ed Saunders said "bah" when his play of BA only scored 9 pts, but Janis Clem flexed her AB for 22 pts and tummy-tucked away the $3.00 prize.

The second was the Location! Location! Location! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a recognizable place or location. Sarah Jacobson hooked ERS onto QUAD (ERS/QUADS) for 33 pts, Ed Saunders got 41 for his singular QUAD, Lewis Saul went down to the FOUNTAIN for 62 pts, but Janis Clem was on a mission down at the MISSION and picked up 74 pts and the $3.00 prize.

Ed Saunders started his game with Janis Clem with the bingo-bango-bongo of BROCOLI, ADVENTS, and UNDERPIN, followed that up later with GRAINIER, FRITZ (86 pts), and WORTS (50 pts) to rack up a 585 pt game and clear the $5.98 out of the Historic Club # 565 Progressive Jackpot.

None of the other Progressive Jackpots were claimed this week and $0.75 shall be added to each next session. We have paid out $322.89 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (March 7, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
