Session Notes - December 27, 2009 Session
This session marked the twenty-first week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!
The goodies table featured Sarah Jacobson's yummy apple squares along
with the usual selection of chips, newtons, crackers, cheese, and some salsa
this week.
The tournament rules division was joined by 3
players who played 28 games in which we scored 9,783 points for a 349.3929
point-per-game average. Of the 20 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies
that went unchallenged.
Travis Carlson took top honors this week with a 5-1 record.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the Teeny Tiny Tournaments Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "T" the greatest number of times, anywhere within it. A little bird told Sarah Jacobson to play TIT for 18 pts, Ed Saunders played BITTY/DULY for 26 pts, but Travis Carlson NETTed 29 pts and the $2.25 prize with his play of NETT/HINT.
The second was the Holiday Season Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of something directly connected to one of the holidays being celebrated between now and January 2nd, 2010. No entries were received for this contest last week so the $2.25 prize rolled over to this session. The three entries were deemed acceptable by our impartial judge. Sarah Jacobson served up some NOGS for 36 pts, Travis Carlson tried to RING in the New Year with a win, scoring 61 pts for his phoney noseRING*, but Ed Saunders followed the right STAR to score 87 pts and the $4.50 prize with STARred.
Ed's $4.50 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and $0.56 shall be added to each of them. We have paid out $167.81 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

• Baby New Year Contest - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring
