Session Notes - March 21, 2010 Session
This session marked the thirty-second week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!
The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, crackers, and
some chocolate this week.
The tournament rules division was joined by 5
players who played 46 games in which we scored 17,431 points for a 378.9348
point-per-game average. Of the 55 recorded bingos we played, 2 were phonies
that went unchallenged.
Lewis Saul took top honors this week with a 6-1 record, 13 bingos and a 415.57 pt per game average.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the Dad GUM It!!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that includes the letters "G", "U", and "M", in any order, somewhere within it. This contest had no entries in either of the last two weeks so the prize had grown to $12.00 for this session. Janis Clem set the standard with 20 pts for GUMLINE but Ed Saunders burst her bubble with GUMS for 31 pts and the prize.
The second was the "V" Is For Victory Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins, or ends, with the letter "V". Sarah Jacobson cleaned up her rack with VAV for 9 pts, Janis Clem put some life into the contest with VITA for 22, Richard Spence was on the verge of a win with VERGE for 30, but Ed Saunders hooked his 87 pt DERVISH onto an existing DE to form DEV/DERVISH and claim the $3.75 prize.
Ed Saunders kept the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot broke, scoring 104 pts with his 2x2 SLASHED to pocket the $0.93 prize.
Ed Saunders rode FIVE bingos (SLASHED 104, NEGATION 63, DERVISH 87, ENTERONS 68 and AMNIOTE 82) to a 625 pt game (the highest individual game of the club season thus far) to claim the $2.98 in the Historic Club # 565 Progressive Jackpot.
Neither of the other Progressive Jackpots were claimed this week and $0.93 shall be added to each next session. We have paid out $361.63 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.
The next session (March 28, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
• Happy, Happy Birthday!!!! Contest - Richard
Spence is turning 16 on March 31st. A quarter of dues collected shall be
awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that
begins with either of the letters "R" or "S" (e.g. RHOMBOID,
SADDHUS, RUGOSELY, SILLABUB, RINGGIT, SHTETEL, RAMTILLA, SYNGAMY, etc.)
• Double-Double Your Pleasure Contest - A quarter
of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a word that is a double-double (covers two double word score
squares in one play)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - A
sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.73 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
