Session Notes - February 21, 2010 Session

This session marked the twenty-eighth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, crackers, and some chocolate this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 20 games in which we scored 7,382 points for a 369.1 point-per-game average. Of the 24 recorded bingos we played, none was a phoney that went unchallenged.

Lewis Saul took top honors this week with a 4-2 record.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "E.G" Set An Example Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "E" and "G", in any order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders hooked an "E" on LUNG to form HOKIER/LUNGE for 32 pts but Mickey Matz refused to agonise over that, playing AGONISE for 72 pts and the $3.00 prize.

The second was the Out Of This World Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of something found in outer space. Mickey Matz hitched a ride on a wandering 61 pt ASTEROID on his way to collecting the $3.00 prize.

Lewis Saul was easily the HOTTEST player at club this week, scoring 118 pts with his play of HOTTEST to claim the $1.68 in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.

Lewis also led an assault on the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot and it's $1.68 prize. Finding an open "AR", Lewis set loose his MARAUDERS for 62 pts and the $1.68 booty.

None of the other Progressive Jackpots were claimed this week and $0.75 shall be added to each next session. We have paid out $310.91 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (February 28, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
• "AB -BA" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play which includes either of the two-letter words "AB" or "BA" as a separate two-letter word.
• Location! Location! Location! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a recognizable place or location. (e.g. BRAZILin, KITCHEN, VERANDAH, NARTHEX, COLORADO, BOSTONs, BALLPARK, FORESTry, BADLANDS, ALASKAs, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.23 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $5.23 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
