Session Notes - December 20, 2009 Session
This session marked the twentieth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!
The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, crackers,
and some salsa this week.
The tournament rules division was joined by 3
players who played 24 games in which we scored 8,285 points for a 345.2083
point-per-game average. Of the 17 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies
that went unchallenged.
Mickey Matz took top honors this week with a 4-2 +313 pt record.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the "SamTimer" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "ST", in that order, somewhere within it. Mickey Matz scored 60 pts with his play of the popular phony "unstaged*" but Ed Saunders heated up this contest with TOASTER for 69 pts and the $2.25 prize.
The second was the Holiday Season Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of something directly connected to one of the holidays being celebrated between now and January 2nd, 2010. No entries were received for this contest so the $2.25 prize will roll over to the next session.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and $0.56 shall be added to each of them. We have paid out $161.06 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.
The next session (December 27, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Teeny Tiny Tournaments Contest - A quarter
of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a word that contains the letter "T" the greatest
number of times, anywhere within it. (e.g. TATTIEST, STRETTI, TITTUPS, GUTTATE,
RATATAT, ETATIST, VITTATE, TITBITS, TOFUTTI, , etc.) If your word has more
"T"s in it than another player's higher scoring word, then your
word trumps his.
• Holiday Season Contest - $2.25 plus a quarter
of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name
of something directly connected to one of the holidays being celebrated
between now and January 2nd, 2010. (e.g. MENORAH, LANGSYNE, CRECHES, PRESENTS,
DREIDLS, CHESTNUT, UNITIES, PURPOSE, MESSIAH, YULETIDE, RESOLVED, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $53.78
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $5.05 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
100 or more points in a single play
•Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $12.52
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $1.31 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
