Session Notes - October 18, 2009 Session

This session marked the eleventh week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, and some salsa this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 10 games in which we scored 3,690 points for a 369.0000 point-per-game average. Of the 13 recorded bingos we played, none was a phony that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week with a 3-1 +219 record.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "X" Marks The Pot Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "X" somewhere within it. Bob Knouse racked up 37 pts with his play of DEX (a stimulant for the nervous system) but Ed Saunders chances blossomed with his 60 pt play of IXORA (a flowering plant) and he plucked the $2.25 prize.

The second was the Here, Fishy, Fishy!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a fish or type of fish. Ed Saunders had the only entry in this contest, scoring 24 with COD to reel in the $2.25 prize.

Ed's $4.50 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and $0.56 shall be added to each of them. We have paid out $79.56 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (October 25, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• "GO" For It!! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "GO", in that order, somewhere within it (e.g. LATIGOS, GOMUTIS, DOGGONE, GALAGOS, MARENGO, GODETIAS, DONGOLAS, JINGOISM, etc.)
• Three's The Charm Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a three-letter word. TO QUALIFY FOR THIS PRIZE, THE MAIN WORD PLAYED MUST BE A THREE-LETTER WORD. However, it is permissible to play only one or two tiles to form that three-letter word. (e.g. CWM, HAO, IGG, RHO, UGH, ZAX, SUQ, HAJ, ALT, OKA, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $45.37 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $4.11 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $4.11 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
