Session Notes - April 18, 2010 Session

This session marked the thirty-sixth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured cookies brought in by Sarah Jacobson along with the usual selection of chips, crackers, salsa, newtons, and cheese.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 56 games in which we scored 19,833 points for a 354.1607 point-per-game average. Of the 38 recorded bingos we played, 3 were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors with a 7-0 record, 16 bingos and a 451.2857 pt per game average.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Take Me For A Ride In Your Car Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a car or land-based motor vehicle. Sarah Jacobson went out on the town in her 14 pt FIAT, Richard Spence (16 pts) and Janis Clem (18 pts) kicked back in a LIMO, but Ed Saunders took his old used clunker out to CARouse for a while (and 75 pts) and drove it home with the $3.75 prize.

The second was the Feathered Friends Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a bird. Sarah Jacobson scored 21 with KAE (a bird resembling a crow), Ed Saunders got 36 with KEA (a parrot), but Janis Clem soared above the crowd with her 104 pt play of JAEGERS (a large seabird) to claim the $3.75 prize.

Janis Clem's 104 pt play of JAEGERS and Richard Spence's 101 pt phoney sideview* split the $2.42 treasure in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with each player receiving $1.21 for their efforts.

None of the other Progressive Jackpots were claimed this week and $0.93 shall be added to each next session. We have paid out $393.84 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.
