Session Notes - January 17, 2010 Session

This session marked the twenty-fourth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, crackers, and cheese this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 40 games in which we scored 14,304 points for a 357.60 point-per-game average. Of the 36 recorded bingos we played, five were phonies that went unchallenged.

Richard Spence took top honors again this week with a 5-1 record, 13 bingos, and a 436 pts per game average.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was The "UN" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "UN", in that order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders rode his VICUNA (13 pts) into the fray, Bob Knouse cashed in a MUNI for 18 pts, Richard Spence. . . .well. . . .Richard hooked his nearens* play to an open "U" to form UN/nearens* for 63, but Janis Clem MOUNTED an 82 pt assault on the field to ride off with the $4.50 prize.

The second was the "ABLE" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word containing the letters "A", "B", "L", and "E", in any order, somewhere within it. Janis Clem was ABLE to come up with 14 pts, but Ed Saunders BALED enough points (22) together to win the $4.50 prize.

Ed Saunders managed to scare up 103 points with TERRIFY to claim the $2.43 in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.

None of the other Progressive Jackpots were claimed this week and $1.12 shall be added to each next session. We have paid out $280.38 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.
