Session Notes - August 16, 2009 Session
This session marked the third week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!
The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips and newtons
plus salsa and trail mix donated by Karen Lundeen.
The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 26 games
in which we scored 9,491 points for a 365.0385 point-per-game average. Of
the 29 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.
Ed Saunders was this week's big winner, going 6-0 + 756 with 17 bingos and the club's high game thus far this season, a big 612 point game.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the "MB" Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "M" and "B", in any order, somewhere within it. Carol Knouse gave it a shot with BAM for 22 pts, but Ed Saunders scored 27 with BEMUSED to take the $3.75 prize.
The second was the Sump'n For The Tummy Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, something that is consumed as a food. Sarah Jacobson went healthy with a 36 pt VEGGIE, Carol Knouse tended to her sweet tooth with 62 pts for BRITTLE, Ed Saunders went exotic with 74 pts for BRAINier, but Bob Knouse cut straight to the basics with MEATier, scoring 96 pts and salting away the $3.75 prize.
Ed Saunders rode a streak of 5 bingos in his first seven plays (SEXPOTS, BRAINIER, LONGTIME, ADVISER, and CHATTING) to a monster 612 point game to pull $11.38 from the Historic Club # 565 Progressive Jackpot.
Ed's $15.13 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $28.44 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.
