Session Notes - November 15, 2009 Session
This session marked the fifteenth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!
The goodies table featured sliced apples and Carol Knouse's wonderful
peanut butter dip along with the usual selection of chips, newtons, crackers,
and some salsa this week.
The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 22 games
in which we scored 8,188 points for a 372.18 point-per-game average. Of
the 20 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.
Ed Saunders took top honors this week with a 3-0 +427 pt record.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the "NL" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "NL", in any order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders moved INLANDS to score 60 pts, Janis Clem took the plunge with the plausible phony sealion* for 67 pts, but Sarah Jacobson called out the LANCERS (75 pts) to hold off the opposition and spear the $3.75 prize.
The second was the This One's For The Birds Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a bird or type of bird. Janis Clem had something to crow about with her 20 play of CROW but Ed Saunders looked deep inside to find inTERNal (a TERN being a sea bird) for 58 pts and the $3.75 prize.
The 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot continues to be under assault this week, with Carol Knouse claiming the $0.93 prize with a jewel of a find, JEWELER, on her opening rack.
Ed's $3.75 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and $0.93 shall be added to each of them. We have paid out $111.60 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.
The next session (November 15, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• "IOU" Contest - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring

"U", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. INCONNU, OPAQUING,
VITREOUS, SOUVENIR, OSMIUMS, TITMOUSE, ZOARIUM, NIVEOUS, TURQUOIS, etc.)
• True Colors Contest - A quarter of dues collected
shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of
a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a color. (e.g.
WHEATEAR, BLUEGILL, SHAGREEN, PREPUCE, MARIGOLD, BROWNIER, BLACKOUT, REDOUBTS,
MAGENTA, CERULEAN, TURKOIS, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $48.73
