Session Notes - March 14, 2010 Session

This session marked the thirty-first week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, crackers, and some chocolate this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 44 games in which we scored 16,448 points for a 373.8182 point-per-game average. Of the 46 recorded bingos we played, 5 were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week with a 4-2 record, 12 bingos and a 406.3 pt per game average. Janis Clem was also 4-2 this week.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Dad GUM It!!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that includes the letters "G", "U", and "M", in any order, somewhere within it. Well, dadgum it, for the second straight week, nobody came up with an entry for this contest and the $8.25 prize will be carried forward to the next session.

The second was the Sump'n For The Tummy Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of something that is normally consumed as food. Richard Spence ordered 48 pts worth of SHARKing, Ed Saunders and Janis Clem served up some EEL in the form of STEELIE (Ed for 60, Janis for 73), but Sarah Jacobson went the dried-meat route with JERKIES for 87 pts and the $3.75 prize.

Lewis Saul sat with a rack of AEELRS? (36 seven-letter bingos in that rack) when Ed Saunders dropped an "S" in the fifth spot between two TWS spaces. Lewis made the blank a "P" and triple-tripled through the "S" with PLEASERS (the one and only available triple-triple with those tiles) for 113 pts and the $0.93 in the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot

Richard Spence and Ed Saunders split the $0.93 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot. Richard scored 115 pts with his phoney repitch* to garner $0.47 and Ed picked up the other $0.46 with a 106 pt play of JOBNAMES.

Neither of the other Progressive Jackpots were claimed this week and $0.93 shall be added to each next session. We have paid out $341.97 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (March 21, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
