Session Notes - October 11, 2009 Session

This session marked the tenth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, and some salsa this week. Karen Lundeen added some baby carrots to the mix.

The tournament rules division was joined by 2 players who played 14 games in which we scored 5,200 points for a 371.4286 point-per-game average. Of the 20 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week with a 7-0 +788 record.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Teeny Tiny Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains two or more "Ts" somewhere within it. Ed Saunders was able to detect a winner in this contest with his 86 pt play of DETECTOR to locate the $1.50 prize.

The second was the That's My Bud! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, a term which might be used to designate a friend, lover, or companion. Ed flashed his meager Spanish with AMIGA for 30 pts, but Karen Lundeen showed that she pays attention to the waitresses of the world with a 35 pt winning play of HONS. Karen picks up the buck-fifty tip for winning this prize.

Ed's $1.50 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and $0.37 shall be added to each of them. We have paid out $75.06 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (October 18, 2009) shall feature the following contests:

Here, Fishy, Fishy!! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a fish or type of fish.
