Session Notes - August 9, 2009 Session

This session marked the second week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips and newtons plus more chips and cookies left over from the Saturday Meet and Greet event.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 12 games in which we scored 4,366 points for a 363.8333 point-per-game average. Of the 13 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "Q" Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Q". Sarah Jacobson managed 32 pts for her QI/RETAIN combo but Ed Saunders racked up 99 points with QUAY to grab the $2.25 prize.

The second was the You Animal! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, an animal of some sort. Sarah Jacobson picked up 36 pts for YAK, Jason Sommer played a 63 pt phony goorali* (which includes the word GOORAL which means GORAL which means a "goat antelope"), but Ed Saunders went right to the dogs with a 69 pt play of CORGI to put a leash on another $2.25 prize.

Ed's $4.50 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. We have paid out $9.56 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (August 16, 2009) shall feature the following contests:

Sump'n For The Tummy Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, something that is consumed as a food (e.g. KIELBASA, HUMMUSES, TAHINIS, SPAETZLE, YAKITORI, PABULUM, AMBROSIA, KRUMKAKE, etc.)
