Session Notes - March 7, 2010 Session

This session marked the thirtieth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, crackers, and some salsa this week.

We welcomed first time club player Michael Danford this week. We enjoyed his company and were impressed by the range of his knowledge. We hope to see him again at future sessions.

The tournament rules division was joined by 7 players who played 34 games in which we scored 12,595 points for a 370.44 point-per-game average. Of the 40 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week with a 3-0 record, 6 bingos and a 417 pt per game average.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Dad GUM It!!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that includes the letters "G", "U", and "M", in any order, somewhere within it. Well, dadgum it, nobody came up with an entry for this contest and the $4.50 prize will be carried forward to the next session.

The second was the Here, Fishy, Fishy!!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a fish or other underwater animal. Ed Saunders built his hopes on his 20 pt play of CORAL, but Janis Clem said "Hawaii" to the $4.50 prize when she played AHI for 37 pts.

Mickey Matz sat with a rack of AEILRSS (5 bingos in that rack) and a hanging "T" in the fourth spot between two TWS spaces. Mickey incorporated the "T", dropped SALTIRES onto the board for the Triple-Triple, 131 points and the $7.10 Triple-Triple Progressive jackpot.

Ed Saunders pulled the $1.87 jackpot from the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with his 107 pt play of SAMOYED.

Neither of the other Progressive Jackpots were claimed this week and $1.12 shall be added to each next session. We have paid out $336.36 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (March 14, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
Dad GUM It!!!Contest - $4.50 plus a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that includes the letters "G", "U", and "M", in any order, somewhere within it.
