Session Notes - September 6, 2009 Session

This session marked the sixth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips and newtons this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 2 players who played 12 games in which we scored 4,652 points for a 387.67 point-per-game average. Of the 15 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took the honors this week with a 4-2 record

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "OMG" Contest - A Salute To Texting awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O", "M", and "G", in any order, somewhere within it. Richard Spence, being MUCH closer to "Generation Text" than aging "Baby Boomer" Ed Saunders, had the only entry in this contest playing MOG for 15 pts and the $1.50 prize.

The second was the Gotta Find A Job Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a profession, occupation, or job of some kind. Ed Saunders kinda danced around this contest, playing HOOF (to dance) for 30 pts. Richard Spence, however, had a clear view to the $1.50 prize with his 75 pt play of GLAZE (to install glass window panes).

The 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot was only a little hazier for Richard Spence as he scored 108 pts to scarf up the $0.93 in the Jackpot with his play of HAZIEST.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and $0.37 shall be added to each of them. We have paid out $52.56 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (September 13, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
"O, I" Guess We'll Have A Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O" and "I", in any order, somewhere within it (e.g. GNOMIST, OILBIRDS, INTAGLIO, IGNITION, MOGGING, GLIOMAS, ORGASMIC, EOSINIC, etc.)
Them's Fightin' Words Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a type of warfare, fight, or conflict of some kind (e.g. BRULYIE, WARHORSE, DUELIST, THUMPING, QUARREL, SKIRMISH, DOGFIGHT, EMBATTLE, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $42.19 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $0.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
