Session Notes - October 4, 2009 Session

This session marked the ninth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, and some salsa this week. This was supplemented by a big box of yummy doughnuts brought in by Bob and Carol Knouse.

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 20 games in which we scored 7,460 points for a 373.00 point-per-game average. Of the 23 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week with a 6-1 +132 record.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "IS" This Really A Contest? - Yes, It "IS"! Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "IS", in that order, somewhere within it. Richard Spence wanted to VISIT (23) the winner's circle but Carol Knouse decided to raise the standard with her 68 pt play of DECISION. Ed Saunders, however, decided to RERAISE the standard to 71 pts and claimed the $3.00 prize.

The second was the Compound It! Contest for the highest scoring play of a compound word. Richard Spence had the only two entries in this contest, supplanting his 82 pt NECKTIE with a 91 pt play of RATLINES to snare the $3.00 prize.

Ed's $3.00 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and $0.75 shall be added to each of them. We have paid out $72.06 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (October 11, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
"Teeny Tiny" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains two or more "T's" somewhere within it (e.g. SHTETLS, STRETTI, TABOURET, TITTUPS, TACITURN, QUITTORS, VITIATE, WITTOLS, DOTTEREL, FOUETTE, BRATWURST, etc.)
That's My Bud! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, a term which might be used to designate a friend, lover or companion. (e.g. FRIENDLY, PALomino, omBUDSman, HOMEBOY, GOOMBAH, TEAMMATE, COMPADRE, amBROsia, PIGSNEY, SWEETIE, PARAMOUR, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $44.44 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.75 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $3.18 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.

* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
