Session Notes - August 2, 2009 Session

This session marked the first week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips and newtons.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 20 games in which we scored 7,641 points for a 382.0500 point-per-game average. Of the 29 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the A Brand New Start Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that directly pertains to a start or beginning of some sort. Richard Spence walked to the front of the boat with the only entry in this contest, scoring 20 pts for BOW and shipping out with the $2.25 prize.

The second was the Clothes Make The Scrabble Player Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a piece or form of clothing or wearing apparel. Richard Spence tried to wrap this one up with the all-purpose BOW but Karen Lundeen trotted out the raingear and scored 24 pts with MACS to win the $2.25 prize.

Karen Lundeen scooped up the $0.56 prize for the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot, scoring 102 pts for her play of TWILLED.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. We have paid out $5.06 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (August 9, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
"Q" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Q" somewhere within it (e.g. QIVIUTS, MBAQANGA, CAZIQUE, REEQUIPS, QUERIDAS, EQUISETA, QUOINED, ALIQUOTS, TURQUOIS, PULQUES, etc.)
You Animal! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, an animal of some sort (e.g. KOUPREYS, ZEBRASS, AXOLOTL, TUATERA, COYDOGS, RINGTAIL, LEMURoid, BONOBOS, MACAQUES, MURINES, CHIPMUCK, URODELES, DASYURE, MUDPUPPY, OUISTITI, BOSHBOK, etc.)
