This session marked the fifth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!
Janis Clem added some animal crackers to the raisins and chips adorning the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.
We've added a new dimension to the club proceedings with the introduction of Quackle and Internet Scrabble Club play as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle and ISC will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle and ISC will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year. More computer activities may be made available in the near future.
The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 30 games in which we scored 10,866 points for a 362.20 point-per-game average. Of the 28 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the Mind Your "Q"s Contest awarded to the player
who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter
"Q" somewhere within it. Karen Lundeen scored 36 pts with her
play of QAT, Richard Spence earned 40 pts for
his play of QUIPS, but Sarah Jacobson went shopping
for 50 pts at the SUQ and heads on home with the
$3.00 prize.
The second was the "CONS" Contest for the highest scoring play
of a word that contains one or more of the negative words or prefixes "CON",
"ANTI", "NON", or "OUT". Once again, no one
was in a negative mood this week, so we'll continue this contest one more
time with the $6.00 prize carried over until someone wins it.
No one cashed in onany of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $61.90 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.
The next session (September 7, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• "I, I, I" What A Contest! - A quarter

ANTIRED, NONACID, OUTGOING,
ALENCON, SCANTILY, IONONES,
