Session Notes - November 30, 2008 Session

This session marked the seventeenth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips and newtons plus crackers and cheese from Ed Saunders, chocolate covered pretzels from Sarah Jacobson, and a box of Nestle Crunch Dark Stixx donated by Monique Kornell. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 7 players who played 36 games in which we scored
13, 018 points for a 361.61 point-per-game average. Of the 31 recorded bingos we played, one
was a phoney that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "Z" Is For "ZARZUELA" Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Z" somewhere within it. Carol Knouse played ZINCED for 36, Sarah Jacobson got 44 for her ZOA, Karen Lundeen raised that to 46 with RAZE, but Janis Clem wins the $5.25 prize with the result/cause combo of ZIT /ZA for 66 pts.

The second was the Let It Flow Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some way to liquids or beverages. There were a couple of entries that I just couldn't justify as liquid or beverage related so the contest came down to Sarah Jacobson's DRIB (a drip) for 14 pts and the winner, Karen Lundeen's QUAG (an area of marshy ground) for 34 pts and the $5.25 prize.

Janis Clem figured out a way to collect $1.31 from the 100+ Point Play Progressive Jackpot by earning 100 pts for her double-double play of FIGURED.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.31 added to it. We have paid out $193.76 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (December 7, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• "PH" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains both of the letters "P" and "H" anywhere within it. (e.g. SAPHENA, PHLOXES, HOOPLAS, PINHEADS, EPHEBOI, THREEPS, HEPATICA, PEAHENS, etc.)
•Pearl Harbor Memorial Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some DIRECT way to war, combat, or the weapons of war (e.g. FOXHOLES, BIVOUACS, BOMBINGS, DOGFIGHT, INFANTRY, SKIRMISH, CASUALTY, KAMIKAZE, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $11.39 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $13.25 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $9.34 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
