Session Notes - March 23, 2009 Session

This session marked the thirty-third week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, some chocolate, and some dried berries. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 16 games in which we scored 5,966 points for a 372.8750 point-per-game average. Of the 24 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Sufferin' Suffixes Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that ends with one of the suffixes "ING", "ITE", "IC" OR "AL". The "ING"s were flowing as Karen Lundeen scored 62 with STEERING and Janis Clem topped that with 63 for FLOURING. Ed Saunders switched suffixes, though, and topped both of those with 87 pts for JADEITE to claim the $2.25 prize.

The second was the This Contest Is For The Birds Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a bird or type of bird. Ed Saunders flew away with this one, playing ORTOLANS for 64 and TANAGER for 74 to claim the $2.25 windfall.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. We have paid out $344.90 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (April 5, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• "X" Marks The Pot Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "X" somewhere within it. (e.g. XEROSERE, NARTHEX, COXSWAIN, OXALISES, SALPINX, XANTHAN, etc.)
• Low Win Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the lowest winning score for this session.
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $23.91 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.49 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $10.28 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.24 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
