NEXT REGULAR NORTHWEST CLUB SESSION ON OCTOBER 12, 2008

Session Notes - September 28, 2008 Session

This session marked the ninth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

The normal array of chips adorned the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

We've added a new dimension to the club proceedings with the introduction of Quackle and Internet Scrabble Club play as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle and ISC will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle and ISC will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year. More computer activities may be made available in the near future.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 28 games in which we scored 10,371 points for a 370.39 point-per-game average. Of the 35 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Show Me The Money! Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates within it, the name of a form of money. Bob Knouse offered up a PENNY for 26 pts, Ed Saunders went to South Korea for some JEON worth 29 pts, but Janis Clem had multiple PENNIES (72 pts) and walks away with the $3.75 prize.

The second was the "V" Is For Vicugna Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with the letter "V". Ed Saunders VOTED for a 30 pt winner, and Carol Knouse had a VASE worth 32, but to their vexation, Richard Spence scored 46 with his play of VEX and took away the $3.75 prize.

Bob Knouse made an assault on the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with his personal high play of the season, scoring 101 pts for his play of SIXTIES. Bob picks up $0.93 for his effort.

No one cashed in on the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $117.85 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (October 12, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
You're Driving Me Buggy! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, some form of insect. (e.g. MOTHLIKE, CECROPIA, TROILUS, BOTFLIES, CADDISES, BILLBUGS, WEEVILS, BARFLIES, SCARABS, HORNWORM, etc.)
"CH, CH, CH, CHia" Contest! - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "CH" somewhere within it. (e.g. CHAPATTI, ECHELONS, QUAICHS, CHARQUID, LARCHES, BLANCHED, OLIGARCH, INCHOATE, ZILCHES, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $2.98 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $4.84 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
