Session Notes - June 28, 2009 Session

This session marked the forty-fifth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips.

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 20 games in which we scored 7,085 points for a 354.25 point-per-game average. Of the 16 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "U-L" Love This Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "U", and "L", in any order, somewhere within it. Sarah Jacobson mixed up a 24 pt SLURRY, but Carol Knouse had a lucky AMULET worth 35 pts and wins the $3.00 prize.

The second was the the Home And Gardens Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of something that might be found around the home or garden. Carol Knouse scored 12 pts for her POT, Sarah Jacobson had 22 inside her JUG, but Ed Saunders checked the garden shed and pulled out some tools, some RUSTier than others to score 83 pts and the $3.00 prize.

Ed Saunders took a shot at the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot, playing the 2x2 CHANTED with a couple hooks to score 116 pts and pull $2.80 out of the Jackpot.

Ed's $5.80 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. We have paid out $459.06 in prizes so far this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (July 5, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Independence Day Contest - In honor of our country's historical day of independence, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some direct manner to the 4th of July (e.g. FIREWORK, PICNICS, FREEDOM, LIBERTY, BALLGAME, DECLARE, CONGRESS, COOKOUTS, etc.) If your word is kinda iffy, support your play with a sentence tying it to the 4th of July as best you can.
• "BR" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "B", and "R", in any order, somewhere within it (e.g. BARGHEST, ZAREEBA, ARBALEST, ZEBRINE, RABATOS, SARABAND, RAREBITS, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $34.37 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $5.42 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $9.71 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
