Session Notes - October 26, 2008 Session
This session marked the twelfth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009
season!
The goodies table today featured sliced apples with a caramel dip provided
by Carol and Bob Knouse, along with the usual selection of chips, salsa
provided by Karen Lundeen, crackers and cheese. Thanks to all who provided
snacks for the group.
We've added a new dimension to the club proceedings with the introduction of Quackle and Internet Scrabble Club play as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle and ISC will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle and ISC will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year. More computer activities may be made available in the near future.
The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 38 games in which we scoredSome numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the Clothes Make The Winner! Contest awarded to the player
who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates
within it, the name of some item of clothing or clothing accessory. Ed Saunders
played coBRA for 24 pts,
and Richard Spence submitted BIB for 25 pts. But
Richard also played the bingo SOUTANES (a long
clerical robe) for 74 pts and that play takes the $4.50 prize.
The second was the To "BE" Or Not To "BE" Contest for
the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "BE".
Ed Saunders opening play of BEGAT earned him 22
pts, but Richard Spence hooked up his bingo EELIEST to BEY to form EELIEST/BEYS
for 68 pts and another $4.50 prize.
No one cashed in on any Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out $139.78 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.
