Session Notes - July 26, 2009 Session

This session marked the forty-ninth and final week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, and newtons.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 24 games in which we scored 9,252 points for a 385.5000 point-per-game average. Of the 30 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the End Of The Line Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that directly pertains to an ending or final disposition of some sort. Bob Knouse came up with a 14 pt DIRGE but Richard Spence buried that entry with his 26 pt play of BURY to grab the $3.75 prize.

The second was the Anything But "OUT" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O", "U", and "T" in any order EXCEPT "OUT" somewhere within it. Ed Saunders had the only entry in this contest, trotting out a 10 pt play of UNTO to snag the $3.75 prize.

Ed Saunders passed up the initial urge to reap a quick 55 point benefit from playing "EX-AX-WE" with the "X" going both ways on a Triple Letter Score square, opting to extend his "EX" to ANTISEX for a 111 point bingo and the $2.98 prize for the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.

Ed's $6.73 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $506.23 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (August 2, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
A Brand New Start Contest - In recognition of this, our first session of the 2009-10 club season, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that directly pertains to a start or beginning of some sort (e.g. EMBARKED, REBEGIN, TAKEOFF, INITIATE, PREAMBLE, BIRTHING, STARTUPS, etc.)
Clothes Make The Scrabble Player Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a piece or form of clothing OR WEARING APPAREL (e.g. HUIPILS, JOHDPURS, UNIFORMS, mASCOTS, CAPrine, windSOCK, BRAzils, OVERALLS, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $38.28 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $9.33 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
