Session Notes - March 22, 2009 Session

This session marked the thirty-second week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, and some Boy Scouts Popcorn brought in by Mama Monique Kornell. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 26 games in which we scored 9,763 points for a 375.5000 point-per-game average. Of the 31 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Practicing Prefixes Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with one of the prefixes "IN", "OUT", "UN" OR "OVER". Monique Kornell jumped all over this one, racking up 9 pts for her play of UNOILED to scrape up the $3.75 prize.

The second was the Springy Kinda Stuff Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, something that pertains to Spring. Nothing jumped out to lay claim to the season, so we narrowed it down to Sarah Jacobson's ZOO for 32 and Janis Clem's $3.75 winning 42 pt play of ZING.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $340.40 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (March 29, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Sufferin' Suffixes Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that ends with one of the suffixes "ING", "ITE", "IC", or "AL". To qualify, the combination must actually be USED as a suffix, rather than just the last letters of the word. For example, the word "MEZQUITE" is the name of a spiny tree or shrub and the ending of "ITE" is not actually used as a suffix, it simply ends the word. (e.g. HONGIING, SMECTITE, HARMONIC, RETINAL, VITTLING, AMOSITE, ANAEMIC, EPISOMAL, etc.)
• This Contest Is For The Birds Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a bird or type of bird. (e.g. OILBIRD, HOACTZIN, APTERYX, OSTRICH, FULMARS, CORVINE, DUNLINS, DOTTEREL, KILLDEE, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $23.35 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $9.72 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
