Session Notes - June 21, 2009 Session

This session marked the forty-fourth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips and some guacamole, salsa brought in by Karen Lundeen, and fresh pineapple from Bob and Carol Knouse.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 30 games in which we scored 10,890 points for a 363.00 point-per-game average. Of the 30 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the OOH! We're Having A Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O", "O", and "H", in any order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders noticed there were no entries early in the session, said "oho", and played OHO for 14 pts and a $3.75 payoff.

The second was the The Furniture And Accessories Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of some sort of furniture or home decor accessory. Carol Knouse scored 16 for her play of BUREAU, Richard Spence made 26 pts with his COTtage, Ed Saunders stretched out on the DIVAN for 28 pts, but Bob Knouse dropped the bingo LOUVERS for 68 pts and the $3.75 prize.

Ed's $3.75 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $450.26 in prizes so far this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (June 28, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• "U-L" Love This Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "U", and "L", in any order, somewhere within it (e.g. FULMARS, LUMBAGO, FISTULA, ULULATED, INVOLUTE, UNSTABLE, LABDANUM, SELENIUM, etc.)
• Home And Gardens Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of something that might be found around the home or garden (e.g. KITCHEN, BIRDBATH, BOOKCASE, LOPPERS, CUTLERY, WOODSHED, ORNAMENT, SONGBIRD, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $33.62 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.05 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $4.67 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $8.96 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
