Session Notes - July 19, 2009 Session

This session marked the forty-eighth week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2008-2009 season!

We welcomed and greatly enjoyed the company of first - time club visitors Erin Vinton and Mike Rinaldi at this Sunday's session. We hope they can pick their way through the initial Scrabble overload and join us again in future sessions. Erin and Mike comprised our recreational division this week.

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, cheese and crackers along with mango sorbet provided by Sarah Jacobson.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 22 games in which we scored 8,181 points for a 371.8636 point-per-game average. Of the 29 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Take Me For A Ride In Your Car, Car Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a car or motor vehicle of some sort. Ed Saunders had the only entry and drove off with the $3.75 prize in his 5 point CAR.

The second was the Anything But "ING" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "I", "N", and "G" in any order EXCEPT "ING" somewhere within it. Richard Spence turned in the only entry for this contest, not that he was needing the $3.75 prize. Richard scored 75 pts with his winning play of NEEDING

Ed's $3.75 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty. In addition, Mike Rinaldi and Erin Vinton waived the first session exemption from club fees and donated $3.00 each to the club kitty. Thanks to all three.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $495.75 in prizes so far this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (July 26, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• The End Of The Line Contest - In recognition of this, our final session of the 2008-09 club season, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that directly pertains to an ending or final disposition of some sort (e.g. FINALIZE, TERMINAL, DIVORCE, ENDINGS, CONCLUDE, DEATHBED, CURTAIN, FAILURE, etc.)
• Anything But "OUT" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O", "U", and "T", in any order EXCEPT "OUT". somewhere within it (e.g. FAITOUR, CORNUTO, AUTOBUS, CONATUS, TROILUS, OCULIST, TORULAS, OROTUND, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $37.35 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.05 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $8.40 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
