Session Notes - April 19, 2009 Session
This session marked the thirty-sixth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s
2008-2009 season!
The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, newtons,
and Easter peeps, plus strawberries, apples, and Carol's incredible peanut
butter dip from the Knouse's, and some cookies from Sarah Jacobson. Thanks
to all who provided snacks for the group.
The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 32 games
in which we scored 11,695 points for a 365.4688 point-per-game average.
Of the 32 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
- High Game - 500 points by Ed Saunders and Richard Spence
- Low Win - 344 points by Richard Spence
- High Loss - 413 points by Richard Spence (Opponent at 421)
- Bingo King - Richard Spence for averaging 1.8571 bingos per game

- Weekly Anagram Challenge Ed Saunders provides our challenge this week. With a rack of ACGIO??, Ed located an open "S" and played the bingo COTINGAS which has THREE fairly common anagrams. Can you come up with them? (Answer in green in "Bingos" section below.)
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the No BS! Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that does not include a blank (B) or an "S" tile. Sarah Jacobson scored 44 for QAT, Ed Saunders racked up 73 with HARMINE, but Richard Spence took home the lettuce ($3.75) with his 77 pt play of ROMAINE.
The second was the Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun Contest for the highest scoring Double-Double for this session. Richard Spence had the only Double-Double this session and doubled the lettuce he won in the first contest with an 89 pt Double-Double of. . . .really!, this is true. . . .ROMAINES. . . .
Richard tosses up a $7.50 salad with his two contest wins.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $373.75 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.
The next session (April 26, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Uh, Can I Buy A Vowel, Please? Contest -
A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in
the highest scoring play of a word (at least six letters long) that contains
the fewest number of vowels (e.g. TSKTSKS, BRIGHTLY, PLINTHS, DIRNDLS, ZYZZYVAS,
CRWTHS, STRONGYL, , etc.)
• "K" Is For Kontest - A quarter
of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a word containing the letter "K" (e.g. KYANIZE,
MISTEUK, KRUMKAKE, YAKITORI, KOLKHOZY, KEITLOA, ALKALINE, BRISKET, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $26.71
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $12.98 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.05 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
