Session Notes - August 17, 2008 Session

This session marked the third week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

Karen Lundeen added some tortilla chips and salsa to the newtons, crackers, cheese, nuts, raisins, and chips adorning the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

We've added a new dimension to the club proceedings with the introduction of Quackle and Internet Scrabble Club play as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle and ISC will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle and ISC will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year. More computer activities may be made available in the near future.

The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 36 games in which we scored 13,020 points for a 361.67 point-per-game average. Of the 28 recorded bingos we played, none were phoneys that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the An "L" Of A Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with the letter "L". Ed Saunders communicated his desire to win the contest with his 65 pt play of LIAISES, but Richard Spence scored 77 pts with LACIEST to garner the $4.50 prize.

The second was the High Loss Contest for the highest losing score recorded during this session. Ed Saunders' 398 pt loss picks up the $4.50 prize.

Richard Spence knocked off the 100+ Point Play Progressive Jackpot with his 117 point play of QUERIES. This is the highest single play of the young season for Richard and for the club, as well.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out $28.67 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (Aug 24, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• "Pros" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains one or more of the positive words "PRO", "FOR", "WITH", or "IN" somewhere within it (e.g. PROTONS, FORMULAR, WITHING, INCONNU, SEMIPRO, PIEFORT, HEREWITH, THEELINS, etc.)
• "Cons" Contest! - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains one or more of the negative words or prefixes "CON", "ANTI", "NON", or "OUT" somewhere within it. (e.g. CONATUS, ANTIRED, NONACID, OUTGOING, ALENCON, SCANTILY, IONONES, DIMOUTS, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $6.91 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $13.80 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $10.64 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
