Session Notes - March 15, 2009 Session

This session marked the thirty-first week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, salsa from Karen Lundeen, newtons, and some trail mix brought in by Sarah Jacobson. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 28 games in which we scored 10,020 points for a 357.8571 point-per-game average. Of the 27 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "UM" Let's Have A Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "UM" OR "MU" somewhere within it. Janis Clem played SLUMBER for 71 pts but Ed Saunders' TEDIUMS (83) took the $3.00 prize in what was apparently a pretty unexciting contest.

The second was the Lookin' For A Job Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a job or profession of some sort. Ed Saunders was looking for some GUARDS (20) for the $3.00 he won in the other contest, but Janis Clem's 80 pt DRAINING took this $3.00 prize.

Janis Clem trotted out her new high play of the season, QUARRIES for 104 pts, to snap up the $1.31 in this week's 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.

Ed's $3.00 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. We have paid out $332.90 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (March 22, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
Practicing Prefixes Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with one of the prefixes "IN", "OUT", "UN", or "OVER". To qualify, the combination must actually be USED as a prefix, rather than just the first letters on the word. For example, the word "INCONNU" is the name of a large food fish and the beginning of "IN" is not actually used as a prefix, it simply begins the word. (e.g. INEDIBLE, OUTWEAR, UNWORTHY, OVEREAT, INCOMING, OUTGOING, UNEATEN, OVERNEAT, etc.)
Springy Kinda Stuff Contest - In honor of the beginning of Spring on March 20th, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, something that pertains to Spring. If your word is "IFFY", back it up with a sentence connecting it to Spring. (e.g. SHOWERS, FLOWERS, BIRDSONG, ROMANCE, GARDENS, OUTDOORS, BASEBALL, SNOWMELT, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $22.42 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $8.79 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $0.75 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
