This session marked the seventh week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!
Karen Lundeen brought some trail mix and Ed Saunders added some cheese and crackers to the normal array of chips adorning the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.
We've added a new dimension to the club proceedings with the introduction of Quackle and Internet Scrabble Club play as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle and ISC will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle and ISC will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year. More computer activities may be made available in the near future.
The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 30 games in which we scored 11,081 points for a 369.37 point-per-game average. Of the 31 recorded bingos we played, none was a phoney that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the Weatherman Contest awarded to the player who turned in
the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to weather in some manner.
Janis Clem made a statement with her weather play of ICKY
for 26 pts to clean up the $3.75 prize.
The second was the "N"ything Goes Contest for the highest scoring
play of a word that begins with the letter "N". Ed Saunders tried
NOVAE for 16 pts, but Richard Spence called on
some NAIADES (67 pts) to help him pull in the
$3.75 prize.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $92.60 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.
