Session Notes - December 14, 2008 Session

This session marked the nineteenth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

We enjoyed the company of North Carolinian Sharon Flicker and look forward to seeing her at future sessions while she's in town.

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, and chocolate plus pineapple chunks from Sharon Flicker and a plate of brownies from Carol and Bob Knouse. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 32 games in which we scored 11,479 points for a 358.7 point-per-game average. Of the 28 recorded bingos we played, two were phoneys that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "OU" Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O" and "U" somewhere within it. Sarah Jacobson scored 10 for DOUR, Sharon Flicker pulled in 26 for QUOTE, but Ed Saunders fired off the bingo OUTFIRE for 85 pts to take the $4.50 prize.

The second was the Flower Power Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a flower or flowering plant of some kind. Sharon Flicker scored 7 with her play of BUDS, but Ed Saunders plucked a 64 pt bouquet of SPOKESIA to reap the $4.50 harvest.

Ed Saunders racked up two of the Progressive Jackpots this week, scoring 104 points with STOCKERS to gather $2.24 from the 100+ Point Play Progressive Jackpot and putting together a big 582 point game to take the $15.49 in the Club # 565 Progressive Jackpot.

Ed's $26.73 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on either of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out $239.95 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (December 21, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• "MC" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains both of the letters "M" and "C" anywhere within it. (e.g. COLUMNAR, MERCURY, MACAQUES, COOMBES, CYANAMID, MOCHILA, AMERCING, ACADEMIA, etc.)
•Christmas Season Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some DIRECT way to the Christmas Season (e.g. CRECHES, BIRTHDAY, WORSHIP, SHOPPING, PRESENTS, INCENSE, MANGERS, CAROLING, EGGNOGS, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $13.63 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
