Session Notes - May 10, 2009 Session

This session marked the thirty-ninth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

We welcomed Joel Horn to the group this week and enjoyed his company and strong play. Joel is in town this week on business from Reading, Massachusetts.

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips plus some grapes provided by Sarah Jacobson. Later in the evening, Joel Horn sprang for a large veggie pizza. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 24 games in which we scored 8,998 points for a 374.9167 point-per-game average. Of the 30 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the A Tribute To Youth Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of some some form of immature life form. Ed Saunders scored 18 pts with TOTe, Bob Knouse racked up 24 pts with igNITed, and Joel Horn took the $3.00 prize with an 81 pt play of YEARLING.

The second was the "IC" A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "IC", in that order, somewhere within it. Bob Knouse managed 12 pts with ICONS, but Joel Horn scored 61 with AURICLES to take this $3.00 prize as well.

Topping off what turned out to be a pretty successful day, Joel Horn claimed the $1.87 in the Club # 565 Progressive Jackpot with a four-bingo 567 pt effort.

Joel Horn not only paid for pizza, he also donated $3.00 of his winnings back to the club kitty. Thank you, Joel.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. We have paid out $409.39 in prizes so far this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (May 17, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Show Me The Money Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of some form of legal tender or currency (e.g. DRACHMS, PATACAS, DALASIS, reCENTly, SATANGS, PFENNIG, TAMBALA, FARTHING, TUPPENCE, etc.)
• Exercise Your Options Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of some sort of exercise or athletic endeavor (e.g. DEADLIFT, SCULLING, BIATHLON, VAULTING, PUSHUPS, CLIMBING, PRESSES, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $28.95 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.75 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $4.29 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
