Session Notes - March 8, 2009 Session

This session marked the thirtieth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, salsa and guacamole, newtons, and some peeps. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 14 games in which we scored 5,148 points for a 367.7 point-per-game average. Of the 12 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the High Powered Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that contains one or more of the letters "J", "K", "Q", "X", and "Z". Sarah Jacobson had a 61 pt non-bingo of QUIPS, but Ed Saunders hooked his bingo EDUCTOR onto the existing word AX to form AXE/EDUCTOR for 96 pts and the $2.25 win.


The second was the Low Powered Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains no letters that are worth more than one point. Janis Clem scored 60 pts with her bingo UNITIES, but Ed Saunders threaded his 69 pt phony soiliest* through the "S" in UNITIES to steal the $2.25 prize

Ed's $4.50 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. We have paid out $325.59 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (March 15, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• "UM" Let's Have A Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "UM" or "MU" somewhere within it (e.g. MUUMUUS, DUUMVIRS, MURMURED, EMULATED, SOLARIUM, ENCUMBER, SIMULATE, MUGWUMP, VACUUMED, etc.)
• Lookin' For A Job Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a job or profession of some sort (e.g. SEAMSTER, FLAGMAN, COLLIER, FURRIER, HOTELIER, MECHANIC, DOCENTS, WRANGLER, NEATHERD, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $21.67 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.56 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $8.04 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
