Session Notes - February 8, 2009 Session

THE NORTHWEST SCRABBLE CLUB WILL NOT MEET ON FEBRUARY 15TH DUE TO THE PARTICIPATION OF THE DIRECTOR IN THE PHOENIX 2009 TOURNAMENT.

CLUB WILL RESUME ITS NORMAL SCHEDULE ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2009

This session marked the twenty-seventh week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips and nuts. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 24 games in which we scored 8,652 points for a 360.50 point-per-game average. Of the 22 recorded bingos we played, four were phoneys that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Take Me For A Ride In Your Car, Car Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a car or automobile of some kind. Ed Saunders tried CARioles for 72, Janis Clem went European with Fiat SPIDERS to rack up 76 pts, but Carol Knouse took a taxi down to the train station and wins it with an 80 pt play of CABoose. Carol rides away with the $3.75 prize.

The second was the Body Parts Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a part of the human body. Janis Clem scored 15 pts for GLUTE, Carol Knouse turned the other CHEEK for 28, and Sarah Jacobson wins the $3.75 prize with a full-faced 35 pt play of CHEEKS.

Ed Saunders cracked the 100 pt barrier with his 101 pt play of SATCHELS to pull $2.24 out of the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out $300.68 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (February 22, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
Happy, Happy Birthday!! Contest - Ed Saunders celebrated his mmmpppttthhh birthday on February 21st. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "E" or "S". (e.g. EGLOMISE, SADDHUS, EULOGIA, STAITHE, EREMITIC, SQUAMAE, EYASSES, SCOMBRID, etc.).
Going To The "LOO" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains all of the letters "L", "O" and another "O", in any order, somewhere within it (e.g. TALOOKA, FOVEOLE, GARDYLOO, LORDOSIS, OENOLOGY, GLOWWORM, GLONOIN, COULOMBS, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $20.36 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $6.73 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $7.85 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
