Session Notes - June 7, 2009 Session

This session marked the forty-second week of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, cheese and crackers, salsa from Karen Lundeen, nuts and dates from Loren Mitchel, and grapes from Sarah Jacobson.

The tournament rules division was joined by 7 players who played 42 games in which we scored 15,218 points for a 362.33 point-per-game average. Of the 42 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Gimme Candy Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of some form of candy. Sarah Jacobson had the only entry for this contest, scoring 24 pts for her play of gRUNTers (RUNTS being a hard candy made by Nestle). Sarah rakes in $5.25 for her winning play.

The second was the The Bird Is The Word Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of some sort of bird. Sarah Jacobson scored 6 pts for TIT, Loren Mitchel upped that to 10 pts with ANI, Bob Knouse dove into the fray with 11 pts for DOVE, but Ed Saunders walked in with REDLEGS for 71 pts and the $5.25 win.

Loren Mitchel cashed in on the 100+ Play Progressive jackpot with a 101 pt play of QUANTILE for a $1.31 payoff

Ed's $5.25 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.31 added to it. We have paid out $433.76 in prizes so far this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.
