Session Notes - January 4, 2009 Session

This session marked the twenty-second week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

We were treated once again to the company of Sharon Flicker from North Carolina. Sharon will be leaving us on January 6th to return to Chapel Hill. We enjoyed having her here and look forward to return visits in the future.

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, newtons, and chocolate plus cheese puffs from Sarah Jacobson, blackberries donated by Sharon Flicker, and nuts from Joni Perry and Monique Kornell. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 20 games in which we scored 7, 326 points for a 366.3 point-per-game average. Of the 18 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the It's About Time Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or contains the name of somewhere within it, some unit or measure of time. Sharon Flicker takes this one with her entry of WINK for 32 pts. We'll hold that prize for her in anticipation of a possible Tucson visit later this year.

The second was the High Loss Contest for the highest losing score of the session. Ed Saunders squeaked out a 349 pt winning loss to wrest this $3.00 prize from Sarah Jacobson, who scored 346 pts in one of her losses.

Monique Kornell scored 102 pts with a nonbingo play of SQUIRM to claim the $0.75 prize in this week's 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.

Ed's $3.00 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. We have paid out $260.20 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (January 11, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• Wassamadda "U" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains in some direct way to University life or schools in general (e.g. PERIODS, CORRIDOR, BUSSING, TEACHERS, BIOLOGY, ALGEBRA, BUSINESS, DIPLOMA, etc.)
• What's "UP" With That? Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains both of the letters "U" and "P" somewhere within it (e.g. PULLUPS, PUERILE, HARUMPH, EPAULETS, HUIPILS, TUPELOS, PRELUDE, POMPOUS, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $15.88 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $2.25 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.37 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
