Session Notes - May 3, 2009 Session
This session marked the thirty-eighth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s
2008-2009 season!
The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips plus some
cheese and crackers from Ed Saunders and dried mangos and apricots provided
by Loren Mitchel. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.
The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 34 games
in which we scored 12,396 points for a 364.5882 point-per-game average.
Of the 37 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
- High Game - 546 points by Ed Saunders
- Low Win - 317 points by Richard Spence
- High Loss - 407 points by Ed Saunders (Opponent at 416)
- Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 1.8333 bingos per game

- So What Would YOU Do With A Rack Of AEEIOU?, Hmmmm? Well, I can tell you what Richard Spence did with that rack in Sunday's session. . . .He located an open "L" tile on the board and played a bingo, that's what. Can you figure it out? Answer in bright blue in the "Bingos" section below. . . .
- Weekly Anagram Challenge With a rack of EINORST, Ed Saunders, for the second week in a row, played the bingo OESTRIN, which has THREE anagrams. Can you come up with them? (Answer in green in "Bingos" section below.)
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the Communications Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, a form or method of communication. Richard Spence tried giving us the EYE for 33 pts, Loren Mitchel JAWED at us for 53 pts, but Ed Saunders hooked his bingo WUSSIER on the end of YODEL to form YODELS/WUSSIER for 89 pts and the $4.50 prize.
The second was the Starts With "W" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word beginning with the letter "W". Sarah Jacobson tried WEAK for 36 pts, Bob Knouse scored 39 with his play of WE, but Ed Saunders WUSSIER play scored 89 and wins the $4.50 prize.
Ed Saunders claimed the $1.12 in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with an even 100 pt play of TEQUILA.
Ed's $10.12 winnings were donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out $401.52 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.
The next session (May 10, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• A Tribute To Youth Contest - A quarter of
dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring
play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of
some form of immature life form (e.g. LEVERET, POLLYWOG, LAMBKINS, PUPPIES,
CHICKees, YEANLING, SILKWORM, NITwits, yEGGman, FILBERT, MINNOWS, etc.)
• "IC" A Contest - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring
play of a word that contains the letter couplet "IC", in that
order, somewhere within it (e.g. KINESICS, ICEBLINK, MICKLEST, LOGICIAN,
SYMBOLIC, LICORICE, PICKUPS, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $28.20
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $1.12 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.54 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
