This session marked the first week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!
Newtons, cheese, nuts, raisins, and chips adorned the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.
We added a new dimension to the club proceedings on June 22nd with the introduction of Quackle as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year. More computer activities may be made available in the near future.
The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 36 games in which we scored 13,323 points for a 370.0833 point-per-game average. Of the 37 recorded bingos we played, two were phoneys that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the Opening Play Contest awarded to the player who made the
highest scoring play of a word that is the first play of his/her first game
of the session. Richard Spence coped with this problem well, playing COPED
for 26 pts to take the first contest of the new season and the $4.50 prize
that went with it.
The second was the Lowest Win Contest for the lowest winning score of a
game this session. Karen Lundeen took this contest with a 324 point winning
game and walks away with the $4.50 prize.
Ed Saunders knocked off the 100+ Point Play Progressive Jackpot with his 100 point play of FANDOMS. Ed takes home $2.80 for his followers.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out $11.80 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.
The next session (Aug 10, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• Low Powered Contest - A quarter of dues collected
shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of
a word which has no letters with a face value higher than one point. If
a blank is used, it may not be designated as a letter having a face value
higher than one.
• High Powered Contest! - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the player who records the highest scoring
play of a word containing one or more of the letters "K", "J",
"Q", "X", and "Z".
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.04
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $11.93 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
