Session Notes - March 1, 2009 Session

This session marked the twenty-ninth week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2008-2009 season!

The goodies table today featured the usual selection of chips, salsa and guacamole, newtons, and some peeps. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 18 games in which we scored 6,867 points for a 381.5 point-per-game average. Of the 31 recorded bingos we played, only one was a phony that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Happy, Happy Birthday Contest awarded to the player who turned in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "K" or "L" ( in honor of Karen Lundeen's birthday on Feb 27th.) Monique Kornell was looking for money with her 68 pt play of LOANERS, but Ed Saunders tied down the $2.25 prize with a 77 pt play of LIGATIONS.


The second was A Colorful Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a color, dye, or pigment of some sort. Monique Kornell set aside her normal aversion to the rays of the sun long enough to show off her 16 pt TAN, but Richard Spence's 70 pt play of fatheRED wins the $2.25 prize.

Ed Saunders noticed an "S" in the bottom row with an "I" three rows above it and squeezed the 9 letter LIGATIONS into the space to pull $9.16 out of the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot.

Ed's $11.41 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. We have paid out $321.09 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2008-2009 season.

The next session (March 8, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• High Powered Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains one or more of the letters "J", "K", "Q", "X", and "Z" (e.g. MOJARRA, KEDDAHS, ALIQUANT, XEROSERE, ZECCHIN, CAJUPUT, MISTEUK, QINDARKA, MAXIXES, ZASTRUGA, etc.)
• Low Powered Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains no letters that are worth more than one point. Any blanks used must also be designated as a one point letter (e.g. STEARINE, NOTARIES, INANEST, ORINASAL, ATLATLS, OORALIS, ALLELES, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $21.67 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.56 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $8.04 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
