This session marked the forty-sixth and final week of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!
The August 3rd session will mark the beginning of the 2008-2009 season.
Crackers, cheese, nuts, raisins, and chips adorned the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.
We added a new dimension to the club proceedings on June 22nd with the introduction of Quackle as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year. More computer activities may be made available in the near future.
The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 28 games in which we scored 9,889 points for a 353.1786 point-per-game average. Of the 20 recorded bingos we played, none were phoneys that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the Talk To The Animals Contest for the highest scoring play
of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within
it, an animal of some kind. Monique Kornell's entry, CLAM,
clammed up on her after only 16 pts, and Ed Saunders brought 28 pts of pressure
to bear with his play of BRUIN. Ed's play bears
$4.50 worth of fruit.
The second was the "A"s Contest for the highest scoring play of
a word that begins with the letter "A". Carol Knouse played the
friendly AMI for 10 pts, Sarah Jacobson took an
axe to that with AXE for 20 pts, but Ed Saunders
showed that anyone could win the $4.50 prize with his 27 pt play of ANYONE.
Ed's $9.00 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. We have paid out $378.63 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
The next session (Aug 3, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• Opening Play Contest - This session marks
the start of the 2008-2009 club season. In honor of this event, a quarter
of dues collected shall be awarded to the player whose first play of his/her

shall be awarded to the player who records the lowest winning score during
this session.
