Session Notes - June 22, 2008 Session

This session marked the forty-first of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

Carol & Bob Knouse added some brownie bites to the crackers, nuts, raisins, chips and dips already on the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

We added a new dimension to the club proceedings this week with the introduction of Quackle as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 10 games in which we scored 3,679 points for a 367.9 point-per-game average. Of the 12 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the CAT! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "C-A-T", in any order, somewhere within it. Carol Knouse found an ACTOR worth 16 pts, but Ed Saunders struck $4.50 worth of gold with his 20 pt play of CARAT.

The second was the DOG! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "D-O-G", in any order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders called in the dogs this week with his 21 point play of . . . .DOG. . . .and buries the $4.50 bone that comes with it.

Ed's acute animal instincts result in a $9.00 donation back to the club kitty this week.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $347.14 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (June 29, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• Anything BUT "OUT" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains all three of the letters "O-U-T", in any order OTHER THAN O-U-T, somewhere within it. Words with OUT, in that order, will be tossed OUT of the competition. (e.g. CONATUS, SAUTOIRE, FAITOUR, TINAMOU, VITREOUS, BUOYANT, TURBOTS, THOUSAND, etc.).
• HI! Let's Have A Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "H" and "I", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. ANHINGA, AFGHANI, HIGHBOY, NOURISH, CHIGOES, MECHANIC, NEOLITH, SIDEHILL, QUAICHS, CHARQUID, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $0.56 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $7.26 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $4.10 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
