Session Notes - July 13, 2008 Session

This session marked the forty-fourth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

Crackers, nuts, raisins, and chips adorned the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

We added a new dimension to the club proceedings on June 22nd with the introduction of Quackle as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 10 games in which we scored 3,999 points for a 399.9 point-per-game average. Of the 19 recorded bingos we played, three were phoneys that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "U-L" luv This Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "U-L", in any order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders played COUPLER for 103 pts to salt away the $2.25 prize.

The second was the CON-test Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "C-O-N", in that order, somewhere within it. No entries for this contest were received, so we'll carry the $2.25 prize over til next time.

Ed Saunders picked up the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with his 103 point play of COUPLER and earns $2.99 for his efforts.

Ed's $5.24 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $362.88 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (July 20, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• The Birds Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or contains the name of somewhere within it, a bird. (e.g. WARBLER, DUNLINS, seaROBIN, WHIMBREL, CATBIRD, jAUKing, MURRELET, CACIQUE, LARKspur, THROSTLE, etc.)
• The CON-test Contest! - $2.25 plus a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "C-O-N", in that order, somewhere within it. (e.g. TACONITE, INCONNU, ALENCON, CONSTRUE, CONGIUS, SOUPCON, SCONCED, GARCONS, ACONITUM, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $2.24 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $9.13 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $5.97 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
