Session Notes - June 8, 2008 Session

This session marked the thirty-ninth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

Bob Knouse made his presence known this Sunday with a 3-0 effort including wins over Ed Saunders, Carol Knouse, and Richard Spence. Bob jumps his club rating 78 points to a new personal high of 1305.

The goodies table was stocked with cookies, nuts, raisins, and chips today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 18 games in which we scored 6,918 points for a 384.33 point-per-game average. Of the 23 recorded bingos we played, two were phoneys that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the LOcation, LOcation, LOcation! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "LO", in that order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders tossed a couple of 14 point words, LONGAN and LODEN, into the mix, but Bob Knouse located FLOPPIER on the board for 88 points and the $3.00 prize is now located inside his pocket.

The second was The Hydration Is Important! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a beverage of some kind. Ed Saunders sipped a little CIDER for 10 pts, Richard Spence had a cup of JOE for 29 pts, but Bob Knouse got enough energy from his QUENCH energy drink to wash down another $3.00 prize.

Ed Saunders shoved his way to the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with a 104 pt play of SHOVERS and pulled $2.24 out of the pot.

Ed's $2.24 winnings were donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $335.90 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (June 15, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• CAT! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains all three of the letters "C - A - T", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. LOCATION, CATAWBA, ABREACT, CABRESTO, ACROBATS, DIATONIC, CALAMITY, etc.).
• DOG! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains all three of the letters "D - O - G", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. GODETIA, WATCHDOG, LAPDOGS, GAROTED, GOATHERD, LOIDING, GEODESIC, DOTAGES, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $6.14 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.98 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
