Session Notes - July 6, 2008 Session

This session marked the forty-third of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

Bill Penrose brought in a veggie tray to join the crackers, nuts, raisins, and chips already adorning the goodies table today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.

We added a new dimension to the club proceedings on June 22nd with the introduction of Quackle as our new alternative to the dreaded "sit-out". On those occasions when we have an odd number of actual humans to play, Quackle will be available to the odd man out as either a very worthy opponent or as a learning tool. Games against Quackle will not count in the regular club standings, but, if used wisely, may very well have an effect on those standings later in the year.

Bill Penrose comprised our recreational division this week. He played games against Ed Saunders, Bob Knouse and Carol Knouse. We again enjoyed his company and are looking forward to future visits from him and his wife Sandra.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 10 games in which we scored 3,578 points for a 357.8 point-per-game average. Of the 10 recorded bingos we played, none were phoneys that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the Anything BUT "OUT" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O-U-T", in any order OTHER THAN O-U-T, somewhere within it. Carol Knouse took this $5.25 prize out of circulation with her 89 point play of YOUNGEST

The second was the Monsoon Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to weather in some manner. Bob Knouse iced this one, and $2.25, with his 27 point play of COOLED.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $357.64 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (July 13, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• "U-L" Luv This Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "U-L", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. LIXUVIA, ULULATE, FISTULA, INUTILE, LINOLEUM, MULEDEER, SOLARIUM, SQUILLA, etc.)
• The CON-test Contest! - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "C-O-N", in that order, somewhere within it. (e.g. TACONITE, INCONNU, ALENCON, CONSTRUE, CONGIUS, SOUPCON, SCONCED, GARCONS, ACONITUM, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.43 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $8.57 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $5.41 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
