Session Notes - May 19, 2013 Session

This session marked the thirty-sixth session of NASPA Club #800 (Northwest Scrabble Club)'s 2012-2013 season!

The tournament rules divisions were joined by 4 players who played 22 games in which we scored 8,679 points for a 394.5000 point-per-game average. Of the 37 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

This week's regular contests were from the club archives.
If you have contest ideas or perhaps a favorite contest from the past, let me know, we'll try to work it into the mix.

There were 4 paid players this week.

The first was the Go Fly A Kittiwake Contest for the highest scoring play of a main word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a bird. Ed Saunders tried to duck under the opponent's defenses with 74 pts for REDHEADS (a REDHEAD is, among other things, a North American diving duck) but Peter Stokes poked a hole in that strategy with 82 pts for HERNIAS (an ERN, also called ERNE or sea eagle, is a White-Tailed Eagle, the Eurasian counterpart of the American Bald Eagle). Peter flies away with the $3.00 prize.

The second was the "SH" We're Having A Contest for the highest scoring play of a main word that contains the letter couplet "SH", in that order, somewhere within it. When push came to shove, Peter Stokes' 36 pt play of PUSH was the only entry and claimed the $3.00 dividend.

Ed Saunders performed the almost weekly cleaning of the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with a 102 pt play of JERRIES and dropped the six bits into his pocket.

The other Progressive Jackpots went unclaimed this week and $0.75 will be added to each next session. We have paid out $258.66 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2012-2013 season.

Next session's contests are from the club archives.
If you have a contest idea or perhaps a favorite contest from the past, let me know, we'll try to work it into the mix.

The next regular session (May 26, 2013) shall feature the following contests:
Show Me The Money Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a main word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of some form of legal tender or currency (e.g. DRACHMS, PATACAS, DALASIS, reCENTly, SATANGS, PFENNIG, TAMBALA, FARTHING, TUPPENCE, etc.)
Exercise Your Options Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a main word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of some sort of exercise or athletic endeavor (e.g. DEADLIFT, SCULLING, BIATHLON, VAULTING, PUSHUPS, CLIMBING, PRESSES, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.03 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Historic Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $6.15 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.06 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
