Session Notes - October 29, 2009 Session

This session marked the twelfth week of NASPA Club #565's 2009-2010 season!

There were no games played in our recreational division this week.
Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 9 tournament division players who played 36 games in which we scored 13,183 points for a 366.1944 points per game average. Of the 38 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week, going 4-1 with a positive 537 pt spread, 9 bingos, and a per game average of 427.6 pts per game.

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "GO" For It!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter couplet "GO", in that order, somewhere within it. Monique Kornell socred 17 for her straightforward play of AGO, Phyllis Spence worked her way around a POTHOLE (68 pts) to form GO as one of her hooks, but true "citizen of the universe" Mickey Matz put his energy into ORGONES to score 79 pts and the $6.75 prize.

The second regular contest was the Three's The Charm Contest for the highest scoring play of a three-letter word. Monique Kornell played ATE for 21, Travis Carlson OOH for 32, Ed Saunders SEC for 32, Mary Lou Van Liere ZOA for 32, Richard Van Liere QUA for 32, Phyllis Spence SEX for 35, Jason Sommer JEU for 35, but Ty Henry put the nix on all of those and took the $6.75 prize with his 40 pt play of NIX.

Ed Saunders notched the season's scond Triple-Triple with a 131 pt play of SARDINES through the hanging "D" to pull $1.68 out of the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot.

Ed Saunders also emptied $3.36 out of the 100+ Play Progessive Jackpot with a 107 pt play of ARABIZED (fittingly played against Jason Sommer, who earlier this season sneaked the phony bingo arabises* past one of his unsuspecting opponents. ARABIZE is one of those that requires the "IZE" rather than the "ISE" ending.)

Ed's $5.04 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.68 added to it. We have paid out a total of $177.74 in prizes during the 2009-2010 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (November 5, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
Scary, Scary Night!! Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that pertains, or contains a word that pertains within it, to Halloween is some direct manner. If your word is "IFFY", write a sentence tying it in directly to Halloween. (e.g. GHOSTLY, GHOULISH, BELFRIES, SPIDERS, dingBATS, tWITCHES, COSTUME, ZOMBIES, etc.)
Electricity Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains either or both of the letter couplets "AC" and "DC", in any order, somewhere within it. (e.g. COMRADE, DOCTORAL, GUAIACUM, CADMIUM, DICTIER, ACRIDINE, DRACHMS, SUMACHS, CREDENZA, CARDIAC, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $14.19 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $4.48 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
