Session Notes - August 27, 2009 Session

This session marked the fourth week of NASPA Club #565's 2009-2010 season!

There were no games played in our Recreational Division this week.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 5 tournament division players who played 20 games in which we scored 7,592 points for a 379.6000 points per game average. Of the 23 recorded bingos we played, none was a phoney that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders was the big winner this week, going 5-0 with a positive 1019 pt spread, 15 bingos, and a per game average of 501.4 pts with 4 games over 500 pts (561, 529, 508, 508).

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the "W" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "W" somewhere within it. Mary Lou Van Liere SWORE for 33 pts, Karen Lundeen got a WAX job for 38 pts, Jason Sommer WINTLED for 79 pts, but Ed Saunders widened the scope of the contest with WIDENER for 92 pts and the $3.75 prize.

The second regular contest was the This One's For The Birds Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or incorporates somewhere within it, the name of a bird of some kind. Karen Lundeen scored 26 pts with KAE ( a kind of blackbird), Ed Saunders garnered 46 with his singular JAY, Richard Van Liere had two JAYS so he got 53 pts, but Jason Sommer was hungry for this $3.75 prize and took it with a 71 pt play of RAVENers.

Mary Lou Van Liere established a new high play for the club thus far this young season and picked up the $1.68 in the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with a 108 point play of PRONGED.

Ed's $3.75 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. We have paid out a total of $57.14 in prizes during the 2009-2010 season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

The next session (September 3, 2009) shall feature the following contests:
• "LN" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "L" and "N", in any order, somewhere within it (e.g. LORGNON, NIELLOS, LALLING, NUMBLES, BLUNGES, LASAGNE, THEELINS, INSULAR, RANULAS, ALENCON, LINALOOL, etc.)
• I Talk To The Trees Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within it, a tree, bush or shrub of some kind (e.g. DURMAST, BOOJUMS, CATALPA, MAHOGANY, SHADBLOW, SUMACHS, SYCAMINE, LINDENS, PALMYRA, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $6.73 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $3.55 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
