Session Notes - February 25, 2010 Session

This session marked the twenty-sixth week of NASPA Club #565 (Speedway Scrabble Club)'s 2009-2010 season!

No games were played in the recreational division this week.

The tournament rules division was joined by 9 players who played 56 games in which we scored 20,507 points for a 366.1964 point-per-game average. Of the 56 recorded bingos we played, five were phonies that went unchallenged.

Ed Saunders took top honors this week, going 4-1 with a positive 400 pt spread, 10 bingos and a 423 pt per game average. Mickey Matz was also 4-1 with a positive 260 pt spread, 10 bingos and a 403 pt per game average.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first was the "AB-BA" Contest for the highest scoring play which includes either of the two-letter words "AB" or "BA" as a separate two-letter word. Travis Carlson tried to stay as true to the rules as possible, playing AB/BAA for 19 pts, Namoli Brennet scored 21 with her CAIN/AB/IS combo, but Monique Kornell managed 22 pts with her play of BA/AB/TA to pull in the $6.75 prize.

The second was the Location! Location! Location! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is, or contains somewhere within it, the name of a recognizable place or location. Sarah Jacobson tried TAXIS for 48, Karen Lundeen went way back to the FORTIES but didn't let us know how many points she scored, Naurlene Canterman sat out on the STOOPing for 65 pts, Monique Kornell visited some DAIRIES for 67, Namoli Brennet took a TRAINed for 72, Travis Carlson went up on the ROOFings for 76 pts, Ed Saunders spent some time in the LOCKUPS for 88 pts, but Mickey Matz scored 97 pts and the $6.75 prize by hooking his bingo FOZIEST to BANK to form FOZIEST/BANKS.

No one cashed in on the Progressive Jackpots this week and $1.68 shall be added to each. We have paid out $444.59 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2009-2010 season.

This week's (March 4th) contests were submitted by Naurlene Canterman. If you have a contest idea or a favorite contest from the past, let me know and we'll try to get it into the mix for you.

The next session (March 4, 2010) shall feature the following contests:
• Happy, Happy Birthday!! Contest - Naurlene Canterman is celebrating her mmmmpppppttttthhhhh (see next contest) birthday this week. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "N" or "C". (e.g. NEONATE, CANDLES, NUPTIALS, CELADON, NAPHTHA, CERULEAN, NICETIES, CHUGALUG, etc.)
• Sixty-Three Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the play which scores closest to 63 pts WITHOUT GOING OVER THAT NUMBER.
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $6.18 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.18 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
